Abstract

The present study “Adolescents Temperament: Underlying Impacts” was undertaken with the specific objectives viz (i) to find out the level of temperament among adolescents, (ii) to analyze the underlying factors and there impacts affecting adolescents’ temperament. The data was collected from Hisar District. A total sample of 250 (125 rural and 125 urban) adolescents’ in the age group of 13-15 years was randomly selected. Standardized scale of Dimensions of Temperament by Chadha and Chandna (1996) was employed to assess the adolescents’ temperament. The collected data were tabulated, processed and analyzed by employing statistical technique i.e. frequencies and z test. This study helps us to understand those parts of adolescents’ personality that relate to how an adolescent behaves area wise i.e rural and urban area. The results of study indicated that in rural area adolescents had higher mean scores in secretiveness, accepting, warmth, aggressiveness and tough minded dimensions whereas reflective, responsible and tolerance dimensions was significantly higher in the adolescents of urban area which showed that adolescents residing in rural area have more aggression which reflects in their personality and temperament and this has a negative effect on their social interaction. The purpose of the study was to gain more understanding of adolescents behaviour as the future lies in the hands of adolescents and this study goes deeper in understanding the areas of impact which are not only individual behaviour centric but socially, economically and geographical impacts are also studied with much wider scope. This will help us to develop certain programs and strategies which will help adolescents directly or indirectly to cope up with the stress and anxiety which badly impact their lives in most important phase of their life thus helping them to become stronger individuals which can be valuable assets to the society.
