Water Quality Assessment of Kondakarla Ava Lake using Multi-Sensor Remote Sensing Data

Abstract

Water quality monitoring is a very effective stage and important for estimate the pollution level in the water. The image analysis plays a very important role for spatial and temporal information needed to monitor water quality parameters. The present research attempt to estimate the changes in water quality indicator in Kondakarla Ava Lake during 1993-2011 using remote sensing techniques. This lake is notable for use of Agriculture, industry and household perspective. The study is focusing on that how Landsat Images can be effectively used for the estimation of water quality parameter. The study analyzed 4 Landsat data of the study area acquiring in 1993, 2002, 2005 and 2011 respectively. The different water quality indicator has been estimated with the help of GIS and remote sensing method. The results have been shown the changes in water quality parameters during 1993-2011. The parameter was used to developed water quality modeling to estimate pollution level and water clarity of the lake. The study also indicates the incidence and development of environmental impact in this region. Hence, it is important to take into account economic and environmental consideration as well as all the environmental pollution issues to save the Konderkarla Ava Lake. The Significant water quality was detected for an 18-year of the period.
