Abstract

Important geomorphic properties like Sinuosity Index (Smf), Hypsometric Integral (HI), Basin Elongation Ratio (Re), Longitudinal River Profile, Stream Gradient Index (SL) and Drainage Basin Asymmetry (AF) of the Ijai catchment
have been analysed and interpreted using topographic maps satellite imageries, GIS techniques, digital elevation model (DEM) data and field study. Increasing values of SL and SL/K along river channels show tectonically faulted and folded
area. Computed Smf values indicate that many active fronts in the study area are tectonically active. HI value (54.1%) indicates that the study area is passing through early mature stage under the cycle of erosion. The value of elongation
ratio (0.688) shows that the basin is elongated in shape, rugged relief. Asymmetry
factor also signifies (>50) suggests that the study area is tectonically tilted.
