Maize, the most important coarse cereal, after surpassing sorghum and pearl millet has become the third important food grain crop in India. Its importance lies in its wide variety of applications besides serving as human food and animal feed. It is a source for a large number of industrial products - maize corn, corn starch, corn oil, baby corn, popcorn, dairy feed, poultry feed, piggery and so on. Maize is used as feed for cattle and poultry besides the starch industry is the main consumer. The demand for maize has risen due to its other diversified industrial uses. The huge potential for exports has added to the demand for maize all over world. (The fertilizer association of India, 2009).
