Abstract

The present study was carried out to evaluate efficacy of Rumec- a herbal preparation on nutrient utilization and animal performance in male goats. Eight male Marwari goats of 18-24 months of age randomly divided into control and treatment groups. Goats were fed with wheat straw and concentrate in the ratio of 60:40. Rumec was supplemented @ 12.5mg/gm in the ration of treatment group. There was significant effect on dry matter intake, balance of nitrogen, digestible crude protein intake and total digestible nutrient intake. Digestibility of DM, OM, CP, EE, NFE and average daily gain (ADG) was also significantly higher in treatment group while the digestibility of NDF, ADF hemicellulose and CF was not significantly higher than control treatment. It can be concluded that supplementation of Rumec @ 12.5mg/gm in ration improves the digestibility of nutrients and average daily gain in goats.
